Battery is going dead
I have a question, relatively new to bikes. Instead of winterizing my bike I am actually turning it on every 3 days so the engine can warm up and the fluids run through. When I leave my bike on for about 20 minutes, sometimes the fan will turn on. Once that happens it drains my battery completely. Is this that my battery is shot or is there something wrong on my bike. Shouldn't alternator coils charge up the battery? I could be wrong. Can someone help me out? Thanks alot. Oh yeah I have a 98' CBR F3.
Not sure if i'm much help, but the chargin system kicks in at around 1500-2000 rpm's, anything lower than that and the bike's electrical will be running strictly off the battery itself.. So if you're just idling it, you need to have the rpm's high enough to charge the battery. Only other thing you could do is get a battery tender and keep it charged, then you could probably idle the bike just fine without worrying about it charging the battery. As for the battery itself, take it into an automotive store like autozone and have them test the battery to see if it's good or not.
1 or 2 times a month will suffice for what you are doing. Once the fan comes on, the bike will be drawing more power than the charging system is putting out at idle......you could just hook up a 1 amp battery charger while you aredoing this.
