Default 95cbrf3 wont start

recently recieved a 1995 cbr f3 that has been sitting for little over a year.it wont start, but the starter motorwill turn the engine over, and there is air being pushed out the tail pipe. I have replaced the battery, checked the spark plugs for correct gap, and tested the spark plugs for spark.im in the process of getting a compression gauge to check the compression from the stepsexpressed by service manual. now ive read other posts that say you should clean the carbs with carb cleaner, from wax build up because of old gas from non-proper storage of the bike. now the question is how do you clean the carbs, do you just remove the carbs and spray them down or do you need to dissassemble them and then spray?
i heard you could pour alittle gas in the carbs and trying to start it, i dont know about it, dont know if thats safe for the bike or not, just want some advice.
thanks

Are you sure the fuel pump is working? The fuel pump is just inside your left thigh when you sit on the bike.

To clean out the small passageways and jets, disassembly is really the best way to go. The pilot jets and idle circuit pasages are pretty small. if you are new to this, do just one carb at a time.

Here's what I would do....get the air box off, spray a little gas down each carb, then try to start it. If it sputters, then gas is the issue and you should continue on your quest to clean the carbs.

Its either air, fuel, compression or spark.....you need those four things to run....it is almost always fuel related on carbureted bikes.

I agree, odds are its in the carbs. You could also try some starting fluid just to see if it'll fire, but as stated gas'll work too.

As far as cleaning the carbs its actually easy, getting them off and back on is harder than cleaning them.
I personally would take them off anyways and clean em really good. Would be a great peace of mind knowing they were cleaned up nicely before getting far away from home and they decide to choke up on ya. Keep us informed!!

If you didn't put new gas in it, that would be a good place to start. You may can get by without disassembling the carbs. I assume the carbs have a drain at the bottom to drain the gas out. If so, then you want to drain out the old gas. Also, they make this stuff called Sea-foam that's really good at cleaning out carburetors. You just pour it in the gas and let the motor run (if you can get it to run)

first i removed all the old gas and replaced it with newgas. i checkedthat the fuel pump was working by unpluging the hose from the fuel pump to the carbs, at the carb end. then proceeded to turn the key to the on position, but no gascame out.dont know if that was the proper test to see if the fuel pump was working , that what i did.

next i took the air filter off and poured alittle gas into each carb and started the bike, it took a couple tries but it started, black smoke came out of the exguast, and the bike dies 20 sec. later.

any idieas?

my pump went on my bike and the way you stated that you tested it should be correct there's a cut off relay (the box next to the cdi plug) so it don't pump out fuel wihlst ur on the ground and the engine is offspray the connecter to the relay with wd-40 and slide it in and out a few times just incase there's road grime in there to test it make sure your battery is full of juice put your fingers on the black cap of the pump and turn the ignition switch to start so the engine is rotatingyou don't have to take off the fuel hose to see ifthe pump isworking if you touch the black cap it should pulsate and nock if it's running the nocking sould start of like a vibrator then slow down and stop once its up to pressure bearing in mind that the carbs were empty of fuel to start with if it don't pulsate then the pump has gone look for a second hand one honda were gunna charge me £160 english money don't want to no the price in dollars and it was fine untill i sent my cbr into the side of a range rover i now have a uni cycle with a workin pump thuogh P.S get a haynes manual it's your bible trust me!!!
