Default 1996, Bearing sound from front sprocket during driving

Hi all,

Bought my first bike yeasterday. A 1996 CBR 600 F. 55655km.
Well taken care off by resent owner, cosmeticly.

Engine i dont know, so im about to change oil and filter and probably the spark plugs also. But thats not the issue.

Engine runs smooth when in neutral and on the road. No bad sounds or anything. Shifting gear is also smooth. But there is a sound coming from the front sprocket area when giving gas. It sounds almost like a bearing going bad? Or that somthing is not ballanced and out off "angle".

Made two videos but thats mainly when using the clutch, is this normal ;

Neutral:

1.gear :

And could this have somthing to do about the sound coming from that area during driving and giving gas?

Happy for all replies,

Br,

Vegar

Like the thought to remove your chain.
Has there been any engine oil leaking from behind your sprocket ? Is the sprocket tight ? Whip it off, check for play on the shaft and run again whilst it's off. It's unlikely you'll feel anything but might as well check. Incorrect chain adjustment could have stressed your primary drive bearing. Are the sounds exactly duplicated when the chain is on ?
Are you saying that whilst riding carefully there is no sound but once you give it some welly the noise comes in but disappears as soon as you throttle off ?
Noise transference ? Broken clutch plate ?

Hi!

Felt like the sprocket had been used to long and was warn on the edges and it wasnt tight on the axle. So i changed it to a new one and that one was a tight fit. But when i took of the chaine, its realy sticky and dry and i have problems with bending the joints. Im going to replace it and lubricate it good.

The seal behind the sprocket was dry and fine and no oil leak. Just alot of dirt from the chain and sprocket probably.

Went for a 2 hour drive and the engine works fine and gearing feels good.
The "klirr" sound from the video above went away when i changed to the new tight sprocket btw.

Glad your getting things sorted.
Sounds like maybe the previous owner had changed the front sprocket and it didn't match the pitch of the chain.
I put plenty of lube on my chain and leave it a while whilst giving it an occasional spin. I give it some time then wipe the whole thing leaving it cleanish to look at. No need to have oily looking chain, it just flings everywhere, including onto your rear tyre.

A tight link will make an odd sound when making the tight turn around the front sprocket.
More of a slight clunk like a dry bearing with a pit. I had one make a slight clack sound.

Welcome to the forum.

Just a quick FYI...should not run an old chain on new sprockets, or a new chain on old sprockets. Front & rear sprockets + chain should be changed as a group.
