Default wont idle

my 91 F2 will start, but with choke fully out. it will barely idle at 1000 RPMS. what could be the cause? when it initially started, it fired right over and ran for a few min, but then hesitated and now it will only sputter and maybe stay running for a minute or so, but if i touch the throttle it will cut out.
could it be plugs?
carbs flooded?
gas is on. and petcock works
idk whats causin this and i dont want to take it to the mechs.
any advice would be great! thanks

Maybe plugs? When were they last replaced? I know on my bike if I haven't started it in a couple of days I have to have the choke fully on. After a little while I will slowly open the choke and it will run fine. Not sure if that is your problem though.

When you say the choke is 'fully out', do you mean it's engaged (open), or disengaged? (closed)

Sounds like a fuel related issue to me. Check the fuel lines. Pull the carbs and make sure all the jets are clear. Clean carbs too while at it.

+1 with carb issues. Try to see if it will start with no choke, but some throttle. Chances are you got some dirt in there somewhere. Also, with choke full on it's possible one plug may not be firing which could account for the low RPMs and porr performance and sputtering.

Anyway, clean out carbs and change plugs. Also make sure air filter isn't overly dirty.
