Default bike wont idle

picked up around noon on thursday and it ran great, but first time starting it tonight (monday night) and it won't idle

I think this is just carb needing to be cleaned cuz it smells like a jet ski engine

First time that I think it has ran in nearly 2 weeks, first in the last 4 days anyways. Just got it thursday but have not started until tonight

here is what happens---
1999 suzuki gsxr 600

Started and held throttle at like 2000rpms for a little bit...around 160 degrees (started at 110ish). Then as soon as i let off the throttle, she died. This goes on for a while...start and die, start and die, start hold throttle and die. The exhaust smells like a jet ski or kinda like a 2 stroke dirt bike...I don't know how long the same gas has been in there, but I would say about 2+ weeks maybe? I could call and find out, but not until tomorrow.

Any theories? I doubt they cleaned the carb's so I dont know if it would just be that or if the problem is worse?

gear should be here by this weekend so i'de love to be on the bike riding rather then holding the throttle open

i have a prob with my positive battery cable coming loose and this happens to me. check that first before you take it to the shop...you would be suprised what a bad connection can make your bike sound, act, and smell like...

Could it be your idle adjustment is just set too low?? Always a possibility, simple stuff first! It's running good as long as it's off idle? Mixture could be off too... ugh carbs!! I hate carbs!! [:@]

Good luck!
