Under seat storage?
Dammit, I was hoping you had already done it. I've used solenoinds before, so I know a little about them (but I'm sure you know more).I once had a car with shaved door handles, so I used them as door poppers. They only opened about 75% of the time. If there's too much tension on a solenoid, they don't work! It was a pain in the ***! Using them essentially as deadbolts (like we would be in this case) probably wouldn't be a problem.
Sounds like a couple solenoids is the way to go. I'm not an electrician by any means but I know the basics and have people that can help. Is there any way to make it a lock cylinder so its more secure than just a button? Pretty much to upgrade it so that its like most bikes nowadays that you use the key to pop open the seat.
I'm just going to put a button under the left rear fairing so that I don't have to worry about carrying around an extra key, or worrying about having a locksmith match up a locking cylinder to my original ignition key.

You will be stuck with 2 different keys for your bike this way though.
Oh...and if you go with the push-button swith I would suggest series-connecting it to the off-position of the ignition lock aswell.
Not really needed, but it adds some security in the sense that you cannot accidentally open the seat when the engine is running.
