So I accidentally put in 10w30 not 10w40... should it matter?
Hey everyone,
So I know the recommended weight for our bikes is 10w40, and I accidentally purchased AND put in 10w30 just about two hours ago. I took it for a ride and didn't notice anything different. Should it really matter at all right now? It's spring like conditions currently in portland (50-60 degrees in temperature, sunny) and it'll probably get somewhat colder before leveling off around this same temp through April.
So yeah, was this a bad move, or will it just affect warmer engine temperatures? I can easily change the oil come the summer time.

I think 10w30 will be thinner once your engine gets to operating temperature so it wont lubericate as well but if it is still pretty cool outside it shouldnt be to bad. But once it starts getting warmer you should put in 10w40 so its lubes it a little better.
Please correct me if im wrong. This is just from memory in shop class a few years ago.

they reccomend that wieght because it gives optimum friction reduction for the engines very precise bearing clearance. unless its extremely cold your bike is still running at nomal operating temp and should use the 10-40. now im not saying you're in any immediate danger of f-ing it up but the longer you run it the more miles youre hacking off the engines life.
