Default Is it running hot?

Just wanted to ask what everyone's bike temperature is when running.I was riding my bike today outside temperature was near 90 degrees and the bike temp gauge was about 3/4 of the way up.It's always ran that hot but for some reason it felt like it was losing power. It didn't have the snap it usually does. Also there was a rattle coming from the clutch basket when I started off in first gear. You think the clutch is slipping when the oil gets really hot?Any advice.Thanks.

I dont know about the power or anything like that but mine runs at 3/4 mostly always. We have 104 degrees on summer but I dont know how it is where you live. I also bought a fluid (I forgot what its called) that lowers the engine tempature by 20 degress, and it did help a little, it doesnt go as high now. Though I think I will put a switch to the fan this summer to see if it lowers the temps a little more.

Yeah mine runs about 3/4 in the summer also.Just wanted to see if that was about where it is supposed to be.Thinking about getting some engine ice coolant to run in it to see if that helps.

Its about the same thing I used man. I dont remember what brand it was, but I bought it at O'Reilly's, cost me like $8. I think its normal for it to run like that at 3/4 becuase thats when the fan kicks in.

Yeah your right, come to think of it now thats when my fan kicks in.Thanks for the info man.I'll have to check the oil maybe change it with some higher grade.I run the Honda brand in there now.Don't our bikes' clutch run with the same oil that is in the crankcase?

Yes. your engine oil is used in both the crankcase and the clutch... this is why you need motorcycle specific oil... so as not to ruin the clutch.

(Engine ice is a COOLANT not an oil. coolant goes in the radiator not the engine/clutch.)
