Default Help me get my 98 running well

Picked up a 1998 CBR600 f3for a pretty good deal due to it not running. I pulled the cabs and cleaned em and now it will start but runs funny like it has a big vacuum leak. From what I can see everything is connected and i do not hear any audible leaks. The bike is a CA model so while i was working on the carbs I removed what i believed to be emissions components by looking at the vac diagram. If i floor the bike while idling it will either sputter and die or it will rev to like 9-10k and then bounce. I took it for a ride and it ran really rough off idle, was okay in the mid range, and then at about 7ish k it really dies off. Any help or direction would be appricated. Thanks guys!

Since a Cali model, you really need to go over that book with a fine tooth comb. Like you stated, you took the emissions off but, if I remember correctly, thier are a few more things you have to do with the carbs also. They are set up different than the other 49 state bikes.

How can you tell if you have a cali bike? I am pretty sure Mine is not but is there something I can check.

motoman,

did you pull the jets out and clean them real good. I usually use a little bread tie wire to make sure I've gotten all the gunk out.

Also, did you happen to write down what size the jets were? It could be that a cali bike might have different sized jets in it. You might need bigger ones.

You're not in a high elevation are you?

P.S. let's see some pix of the bike - and what did you have to pay for it?

Went through the carbs again and spent a lot of time cleaning the jetsreally well, the carbs are spotless now as they should be. Bike still has some issues though. It is running and idling decent now and will free rev well most of the time. If i leave it idle for about 5min it will die. I took it for a little ride and it will run okay and then it will start to break up really bad while crusing like it is either not getting enough gas or it is getting too much gas. I know the regulator rectifier causes some of these symptoms but the battery seens to stay charged without any issues. The bike does start really hard and I usually need to hold the throttle wide open in order for it to start. Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!

bike has stock jetting, what would cause it to run so rich? Could it be an electrical issue that could cause it to run like this?
