regulator rectifier test
Test the battery with the engine running....should be 12-14V at 3000 rpm, if it is a bad RR, it will read upwards of 15-20V. We have notoriously bad RR's, and if it's not a (cheap) RR, it could be an (expensive) stator. When mine went bad I just went ahead and replaced the RR without even testing...playing the 98% odds. oh...and you would KNOW if it were not working properly...don't even worry about it if you're not having a major electrical issue!
Hell ya...I wish I had done it in hind-sight...it's not to complicated. Though I bought an aftermarket RR with fins off ebay...mounted it with CPU thermal compound and have nopt had a problem in over 2 years (of heavy riding).
