Default Noob question about torque?

Hi, I am new to this and have been using the search tool but can't seem to get a definate answer on a torque wrench. Should I but a 1/2" Drive Torque wrench or a 3/8"? The 1/2" i am looking at is 20-250 ft-pounds, is that too much?

What wrench would I be able to use for most applications as in changing brakes, tires, miscellaneous engine torques?

3/8 drive should be plenty for pretty much everything you will ever do on the F2 I think. Just make sure its in ft-lbs rather than in-lbs.

From what I can see in my manual. The highest torque areas are the rear axle nut (69 ft*lb), steering stem nut (76 ft*lb), and the swing arm pivot bolt nut (80 ft*lb). If you can get a 3/8" drive that will handle these torques, I can't see spending the extra for a 1/2" drive unless you are going to use it on cars, trucks, farm equipment, jet aircraft, or your neighbor only has a 3/8" drive.

plus if you get a 1/2" wrench you either need 1/2" sockets or a 1/2" to 3/8" converter...i have tendencies to snap the converters when i do this...

get the 3/8" wrench. it should be good enough

Plus if you use a reducer i.e. 1/2 to 3/8 I believe you lose a little bit of the torgue thru the reducer. We have a repair shop for cars and trucks and we use 3/8 on 95% of our work.

Precisely as I figured. if 90 ft-lb of torque is the most you're going to need to make, find a 3/8" drive that will do that. no need for a torque wrench thats way overkill for this.
