I had the same problem. On my bike the frame acts as the heatsink. Put cpu grease between the frame and regulator.

I had 2 problems, one there was a bad connection between the alternator and regulator probibly caused by to much heat. Two I had to put heat conductive grease between the regulator and frame to disapate the heat.
After a long ride the frame around the regulator gets really hot probibly 150 F
The connector attached to my regulator also melted.
MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR Light bulbs are working. The less power your bike uses, the more extra power your regulator will turn to heat and the hotter your regulator will be.
This explans it well

also my head light not working, i have change the rectifier regulator and stator magneto but still my rectifier get so hot. as soon i start the bike within 30-40 second its already hot.
The old models had the eletronic components set in rubber. The newer ones have fins to cool it down. I definitely recommend the newer style. Also on the F2 i had, I took a small 12v electric fan that cools the processor in a desktop computer and rigged it over the regulator/rectifier to aid in slow speed cooling. I never had any trouble after that.
