Laid down
Ok so on my first REAL ride with my new bike (got it last Friday) we decided to go for a nice long ride. I was with a buddy of mine from work who has a newer BMW 1150 RT. H knows I'm not yet comfortable with my new ride yet so he lets me lead so that I am setting the pace.
We end up in Golden, Colorado (we live in Colorado obviously) and we're near Lookout mountain. I tell him I'm not yet ready to take it on the switch backs up the mountain so we decide to go up only a half a mile to a park and then turn around.
Easy ride up that half mile of course and only 2 corners that were a little bit more than 90 deg corners. We get up to the park, take a break (we've already been riding for 2 hours at this point) watching some people play Frisbee and then we head back down. On the last turn I'm doing maybe 15-18mph (it's a tight turn) and then all of a sudden there's this young girl in her father's Nissan Maxima flying around the corner heading up the hill. I am assuming she wasn't ready for the turn because she's 3/4 the way into our lane. I have to quickly swerve right (the corner is going around to our left) to avoid her and I hit the soft shoulder which is about 15 feet wide with a guard rail. The bike lays down on the right side and I basically just hop off. I stay on my feet and the bike slides to a stop hitting the guard rail just hard enough to stop it.
I turn around to see where my buddy is at and he's sitting there staring at me with his bike on the ground as well. We just sit there for a moment looking at each other kind of like "Did that really just happen?". His bike didn't slide as far as mine did but he has hard side luggage bags on the sides. One of his bags got pretty scrapped up and the frame it's mounted on was pretty bent up.
My bike didn't fare quite as well. The entire front upper/lower cowel is scratched all to hell and cracked in a bunch of places. The right mirror is cracked and the break pedal got munched a bit. From hitting the guard rail the left upper cowel also got munched pretty good and there's a piece of the instrument panel plastics that's now missing.
Fortionetly I was planning on replacing the plastics, but I wasn't quite ready to do that. I'll have to ride for a while on a beat-up bike hanging my head in shame. And to top it all off the girl never even knew what she did. By the time it all happened she was well into the next corner and never even slowed down.
I'll get some pics posted tomorrow...

RE: Laid down
wow, that definitley sucks alot. good to hear you werent hurt though. it pisses me off the way people drive and us bikers take all the risk because of it. i was warned by many people not to ride because in this day and age its not safe for bikes out there. of course i dont hold back from riding but the reason its like this is because of dumbasses like that. hope you can get your bike squared away

RE: Laid down
Hate to hear about your accident! Glad you and your buddy were safe.
Not trying to jack your thread here, but I recently bought my F2 a month ago and have been contemplating frame sliders. Do you think, or does anyone else know if frame sliders would have been effective in this situation?
Sorry about your bike.

RE: Laid down
I was thinking the same thing last night when I was taking those pictures. I think they may have helped some with the crack damage to the cowel and it might not have slid as far if those were digging into the dirt. However, being that it was dirt I doubt it would have keept and of that roadrash from happning.
