picked up another motor from an f3 for dirt cheap and came with a couple water pumps and a rear fiberglass single seat body piece, it has a bad headgasket so I can use the lower parts like the stator cover and stator parts...

so heres the deal, and I please need some good technical advice here...

got the stator cover, flywheel and stator from the f3 motor into the f2, but the chipped off edge on the case is still leaking oil even after I sealed the heck outa it with grey sealant

should I pull the motor and have the chip fixed?

Or should I get the head done on the f3 motor (blown head gasket)and drop that in with my f2 everything else, would that even work?

Yeah, that is definitely not a chip!! You're missing a significant bit of metal there!!
I was going to ask what this grey sealant was, and recommend JB Weld, but that isn't going to be fixed with anything like that.

Honestly, I don't know if a good aluminum welder could repair that - a VERY good one probably could, but the cost would likely not be worth it, and it would probably be cheaper to replace the motor.

You've already got the F3 motor, which is a viable option, but you'll need at least the F3 airbox and wiring harness as well, and there may also be other considerations, so I would just do some searching on projects of the same sort... it's been done plenty of times before.

 

Yeah that's not gonna be fixed with any sealants, even if it would be welded you'd need the missing part. And it would need to be sanded or grinded straight to ensure proper sealing. You either are gonna have to change the engine cover or swap the whole lump...

 

Taking it in next week to a local and longtime welder of mostely motorcycle related stuff, ill see what he says, he did some frame repair for me years ago on another bike, if it works out ill have pics here, this is all the bike needs now as i just got the lein paper work in, might need a carb cleaning too...

 

got the bike back last week after getting the case repaired...
stator cover on and fluids filled, bike runs good with no leaks, carbs seem to be boggy so I might have to check the jets and make sure they are clear...

stator cover in place, matches up nicely, once I bolted it up I used some sealant on both side of the gasket..
this ran me $250 by Puccio Welding and Machine in San Jose...
now I have to figure out what fairing parts I'm going to use

The aluminum repair looks really good... how much did that set you back?

 

$250, yea Puccio (Pu-Gio) here in SJ does awesome work, its just one guy and it was his dad before him

But...I also just got back from test riding the bike a few blocks, running good and was going to the gas station on the way back as I thought I was out of gas. The bike started running very rough and died

it was Costco near me and I forgot you have to have a Amex card to pay so I just pushed it back to my shop 1 block, gonna get a can of gas and fill it up and see if it starts running again, it was just all of the sudden it started running rough, I might just pull the carbs and clean them before I run it again
