Excessive gas smell
Seems that when run the garage ends up smelling a lot stronger of gasoline than it should. Any thoughts or is this a normal thing I just need to get used to?

It's tough to say, if you want your bike to run perfectly smooth and be perfectly tuned it needs to be done on a dyno for best results.
You can try to do it on your own with a jet kit and spend countless hours testing, tuning and checking your spark plugs but that is never very accurate.
$400-$500 for a dyno tune would be my "estimate" ... The results are astonishing, it's worth it in my opinion.
Throttle response will be crisp, and you'll have a very smooth powerband with no flat spots.

I don't think I have anybody around here that could do it that precisely. Unless dealers have dynos... we don't have much of anything "performance" related...
Figures. I'll have to start looking for shops around here.

Wideband o2 sensor on the exhaust and running it at 14.7 idle and around 13.5 wot. You can do it this way and also make your own jet kit seeing what ratio your getting that way. Richer is better than leaner. Leaner more detonation and it will run hotter. Rich you will loose power and promote carbon build up by un-burnt fuel but its safer.
Can you elaborate a bit more on that?
I was just figuring since it is a 92, I am at least the 4th owner, and the guy who had it before me didn't put many miles on it and it sat a lot... it might just need to be tuned properly.
