Default Electrical is dead, any ideas?

Went on a 150 mile ride today and 3 miles from home it starts to rain and bike starts bucking like it's out of gas. Just filled so I know that's not it so Ipull over just as it dies all together. No lights, horn or nothing - battery has a charge and connections look good. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have a problem with my electrics also, but this sounds like what happened to my friends bike. I think he said his wiring had burnt out from the regulator . He had to replace stator & rectifier and the it was sorted, hope this helps I'm no expert. I'm sure someone on here will help more, cheers.

How do I troubleshoot the rectifier? Also, should I post this in the General Tech forum instead of here?

Do a search...thereare probably 100 posts about trouble shooting the RR....with a good test set you can test the RR and stator.

Update: battery has charge (12.8v) with key off and no charge when key is switched on. Rectifier wires test good (green has continuity to ground, yellows don't, and red has battery voltage) 30a fuse is good and the three 10a and one 15a fuse is good. But, there is no voltage from the ignition module plug black wire to ground. Still no lights, horn, start button, etc...

Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at the fuse right above the rear shock damper...That one might be blown...It is at the top of a little box there..

Did you actually check the connection to the battery or look at them? The sputtering sounds like what my bike did and it was the connections to the battery. check to see if they are tight if you haven't already.

Sure sounds like the water shorted something in a connection. At first I would have said that the wires were bad and grounded when they got wet, but it almost sounds like you have a short in the ignition or something.Good luck tracing the problem.
