Change Plugs
The factory tool kit comes with a special socket with a small hex on the end; use that and the wrench that fits the hex and you can get them out from the side, it's a huge pain but it can be done. Get new plugs because you won't want to do it again anytime soon!
This kind of work is usually done with other big jobs like checking the valve clearances where you take a whole bunch of stuff all the way apart, do the appropriate work and other jobs while things are easy to get at while it's apart; put the whole thing back together and try not to do it again until next time. Ya gotta plan it!

Indeed this is an annoying task. I found it best to pull the plug wires completely out of the way to free the most room, use the appropriate extension and drop that in first with the socket on it, then place the rachet on the end, and slowly turn it out. Use a spark plug socket with a rubber insert so that when your getting it out, it wedges itself in. Then, carefully pull off the rachet, and slowly pull out the extension and socket which should still contain the plug. Putting in the new ones is easier, just drop the plug in carefully, followed by the socket and extension, then on goes the rachet.
It takes time, about 45 minutes if I remember right.
