Bike fell over and now no oil pressure!
I rode my bike to work today and when I got off it the kickstand apparently wasn't locked into place. The bike fell over on it's left hand side after I had turned it off. A few scratches I was depressed about. This was like 2 hours ago.
I just went to start it and the bike started but the oil pressure light stays on and the valve train is rattling like I've never heard before. I checked the oil and it is at the full mark. I have no oil on the ground and all lights and switches seem to work. It's as if the oil pump just broke. I just don't know where to start here. Even when I have changed the oil and put in a new filter the oil light goes out after 1-2 seconds. now it just stays lit up red. gave it one quick rev to 4k and nothing changed so I shut it down quick.
If anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them.
Thanks,
Mike

I sort did the same thing. I just changed the oil and went to go start it but when i went to stand it up my left foot slid( must have had a small amount of oil on my shoe). Anyways the bike leaned about 60 degrees before i was able to stand it back up. The oil light stayed on for about 2-3 mins before it went off. Try letting it idle for a few mins. Thats all it took me. Hope that helps

Well I called a dealer/service department and they said that with carb bikes, sometimes when they fal over the gas drains out of the bowls and makes its way into the oil where it mixes and completely thins it out. It was suggested that I do an oil change.
So i went to WalMart and grabbed a jug of Shell synthetic and a new oil filter from the garage and I'm going to try it in about 15 minutes here. Will report back.

Wow, their suggestion worked. i could smell an odd odor in the oil but it wasn't a strong fuel smell. Anyway, I changed the oil and filter and once I started it back up it rattles for a few seconds then quieted down some. I think the CCT needs to be replaced, but the bike sounds pretty much back to normal and the oil light is not on anymore.
Now I just need to do some touch up to the paint and replace the shift bracket (or bend back into shape.)

Oh, Shell Rotella 5w-40 is not "Energy Conserving" oil and as such is just fine for use in our engines. People run it in Harleys, Hondas and about anything else I can think of. I've been running it for 2 years now and the bike now has almost 39,000 miles on it. $19 for a gallon jug and it's given me better mileage than the Repsol stuff I was paying $40 for before. Check the forum sections for oil recommendations. You will see it everywhere, even on the shell forums where cycle guys swear by the stuff.
