any help would be appreciated.
For the coolant reservoir, I seem to recall that you have to drain it separately by disconnecting the lower hose. It's most easily done by disconnecting the hose where it joins the radiator, on the top right, and lowering that hose so the reservoir can drain. Probably best done when you've drained the radiator at least a little so that doesn't pour out when you disconnect the hose! I believe the reservoir can't be removed without first removing the rear shock so it's hard to work around.

So do you know if you have a problem at your cluster of is your temperature guage not working because the sensor is faulty? The sensor is at the end of the black wire going into the right rear side of the cylinder head.

I pulled the sensor off and it seems like that is what is causing the temp gauge to not work.

That aside, The radiator is still smoking. I pulled the Thermostat off, it was broken as well. After i pulled it off, I started the bike up again after refilling the coolant. It still is smoking.

Anything else i'm missing?

Any chance you got some coolant on the headers and it's just burning off as the engine warms up?

well thats possible, but as the bike gets hotter, there is more and more smoke. It seems to only come off the right side of the radiator, where the cap is at.

so I got the temp gauge working. The smoke was the high temp paint I put on the radiator and headers baking. also all the coolant I spilled all over the radiator. I took her for a run today and the temp stayed within operating levels. This means I can continue the restoration process. Still hoping for a friday ride!
