I also noticed that the reservoir did not drain when i pulled the hose.
I did a search for the proper way to drain the coolant, and it seems like i'm doing it right. I wish my temp gauge worked so i could see how hot it was. is there another way to see the temp? digital thermometer?
any help would be appreciated.

So do you know if you have a problem at your cluster of is your temperature guage not working because the sensor is faulty? The sensor is at the end of the black wire going into the right rear side of the cylinder head.

I pulled the sensor off and it seems like that is what is causing the temp gauge to not work.
That aside, The radiator is still smoking. I pulled the Thermostat off, it was broken as well. After i pulled it off, I started the bike up again after refilling the coolant. It still is smoking.
Anything else i'm missing?

so I got the temp gauge working. The smoke was the high temp paint I put on the radiator and headers baking. also all the coolant I spilled all over the radiator. I took her for a run today and the temp stayed within operating levels. This means I can continue the restoration process. Still hoping for a friday ride!

Well I'm about 98% done with this project. Bike runs great. Filled her up this morning and rode to work, about 15 minute ride, but still was lots of fun.
here is the last of the pics for now!
Added front fairings and decals. frame sliders new handle grips and bar ends. also new levers. I had a great time fixing this up. kinda sad its over, but at least now I get to ride it! haha thanks everyone who kept up with the thread! If you have any questions please ask!
