I blew my head gasket after putting my bike together after a long winter project. I went for a ride for about 2 blocks and the clutch starts slipping, I limped back and changed the new freshly dropped in oil and the telltale sign of a blown head gasket(coffee like watery fluid). My buddy is telling me to flush out the crap that is in the motor with kerosene for a minute running(it has enough lubrication with oil byproducts) and drain the crap out. But worried that the 2 blocks on the slipping clutch may have ruined the clutch or at least concerned. Yes the clutch is used. Is there a way to adjust the clutch if it is still slipping?

Clutches are relatively cheap and easy to do on these bikes. They're cheap as well in the sense that they deliver lots of noticable gain for their cost, versus all the other farkle people put on their rides.

 

I can fix the head gasket, no problem, I got that! I am hoping the clutch doesn't slip more after we clean the internals with kerosene. I am asking if there is a way to tightening or adjusting the clutch?

 

There is your clutch cable adjustment, which could causing constant drag. Outside of that, it's all about whether your plates, springs, and the fibers are within tolerance. Get a shop manual and a digital caliper and get some readings.

While it is some fat harley dude breath heavy, it's how you adjust the cable. Follow that technique.


If that doesn't fix the issue, your clutch is probably toast. I can't see Kerosine fixing the issue... and honestly why the hell would you use some ghetto *** technique like pouring kersoine into your bike when it's a machine that can kill you in a heart beat when you're at speed? Honestly dude, if you do something that stupid and this thing blows up with you on it the local news paper headlines will read "Kid dies of Natural Selection, just so happened to be on a motorcycle when it caught up to him"

 

I would use it to flush the bad coffee like watery crap out, idle the bike for 30 seconds and drain. Not run it down the street, but to idle and then drain. That or spend $40 bucks to fill with bike oil and then drain it again and again. This is some nasty $h!t in there. Pray that your head gasket never blows!

 

I wouldn't do the kerosene thing myself (I have heard of people doing it to clean out bad oil).

I would get some crappy motorcycle oil from walmart for $20 instead of 60... ride it for 30miles and then drain and replace with the good stuff

If you put in an oil with "friction modifiers" (or something like that, usually in car oil) you will lube your clutch toooo much and it will slip.... are you using motorcycle specific oil?

 

Yep, 10w-40 Mobil 1 motorcycle oil. Only the best. But too much crap fluid in it.
