'93 F2 Mods - Phase 2
You would be very surprised at the deals that can be had on these bikes... I think it's just going to be a matter of being patient, if this is the direction I'm going, which, I'm pretty sure it's going to be.
Oh yeah. I'm debating on trying to sell my F2 to purchase a newer CBR. I only paid $800 and have put some time and a bit of money into it. I'm sure I could get quite a bit more for it. See some around me going for around $2400.
Unfortunately, a lot of guys selling, especially on Craigslist, are even asking more than the NADA value, which is just retarded, ESPECIALLY for bikes that are NOT perfect!!
I have found MANY examples of '03 954's, and occasionally 600RR's and 1000RR's, that are a touch newer, even, for less than the cost of a large amount of F2's and F3's out there, a large percentage of which need work... it's just stupid.
The frustration for me, whether looking to buy or sell a bike, is the differences between NADA and Kelly Blue Book values - it's roughly $2000 difference between the two, with my vintage of F2 only worth about $1395 in excellent condition with one, and $3300 with the other!

I don't give a flippety-flop how small the damage is, or how little work needs to be done to it, if it's NOT in excellent condition, then the price should NOT be the max of the book value let alone ABOVE that figure!!

Two things that aggravate me in the market here is firstly the seasonal variation in prices. I mean, if you want to buy a bike in at least somewhat decent price it HAS to be bought late in the fall or early in the winter before the PO has done any maintenance work on it, and usually bikes bought that way has a LOT of work to be done.
The second thing is a new phenomenon called swap price. Like someone is selling a bike for a 1000 bucks, but if a trade is going to be made for something else he wants 1500 for it. HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY A SUDDEN 500 INCREASE IN THE VALUE WHEN A SWAP IS BEING DONE!!!!??? Ticks me off... It`s even so common these days that if I`m selling something and only state a sell price people ask me what`s the swap price, and I have to tell them the price is written in the ad....
The prices asked from old bikes in general here sometimes just seem ridiculous, if I put at least a somewhat reasonable price in my own ad everyone`s suspicious and keeps asking what`s wrong with it that I`m not telling cause it`s so cheap...
Sorry for the rant, handing the thread back now...

Holy cow jns... Ive missed so much in the last few months. Literally took me and hour to read all the new posts and view the pics from you. Im very sad to hear your street bike is gone =( and your dog too...
Well, the street bike isn't gone, but it is damaged - the other driver's insurance company is covering the costs, as it was his fault, and I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to restore this bike again, or take that money, part out what's left, and use those funds to upgrade to a newer model... I love the F2, but 5 years on the street with one, and I'm ready for a change of pace!
