Default Failing to start

Bike has twice yesterday not wanted to start.

Turn the key to the on position and it wakes up but doesn't do it's start up procedure thing where it makes a noise and the rev counter runs bottom to top and back. Then the ignition button doesn't do anything, nor to my gear indicator or rev/switch light.

Kind of like if you kept the kill switch to the off position.

It did eventually wake up properly but I don't know if it was from me rocking the bike about or just from waiting long enough.

Anyone else had a similar problem? I'm thinking a good bet is a dodgy kill switch?

I'd say that's a pretty good assessment . If you turn off the kill switch and attempt to start it, are the symptoms "identical" ? If so, I'd say you have your answer. I know older models have had issues with the kill switch, start switch among others.

I daren't touch it now incase it doesn't start. I've not touched it since and haven't ran into the problem again. Maybe I should though so I can gain the confidence to use it in traffic on really hot days?

The Engine Stop switch on the right handle control is primarily designed for emergency use, and not used as your normal stop switch. That being said doesn't mean it can't go bad and cause issues like you describe. Best to find out now and fix the issue than get stranded someplace far from home.
