Now that the coils are gone, I figured I would do another little mod. I am only too familiar with Honda's terrible r/r location. I saw another user mount a fan on the r/r to cool it. Those coil mounts seemed like a good spot. Traced out the mount on a peice of paper and scanned it in and modeled it out in solidworks. Fortunately we have a waterjet at work so I just cut it out some some 1/8" 6061. Mounted an 80mm PC fan on and wired it to the license light circuit. Really easy and hopefully it will help keep the r/r cool.

Easy peasy.

If anyone wants the dxf, I can send it. I'm sure there are machine shops around that can jet/laser it out for not too much coin.

I just saw this mod. Awesome job. Could you send me the DFX via PM?

Also, is the fan on all the time? Is that a drain on the battery?

Sent.

I have it wired to the license plate light, so the fan only comes on when the ignition is on. I'm sure there are closer circuits to draw from, but the brown wire is so easy to find! The fan will only draw like 100mA so overloading the circuit isn't a worry.

Thanks for the file. Sent you a note. Won't be able to do it until I get the CNC mill up and running in the new shop, but I really like the idea.

Wonder if a little thermo switch could be mounted to turn the fan on when needed...or tie into the engine sensor...just thinking it wouldn't need to run all the time. Like you say won't take much juice so probably fine running.

Great! Let us know what you decide.

If you are going cnc, you can add in the risers you need to mount it. If you can 3D model, that is what I'd do. I prefer everything one piece, though.

Yeah I can 3D it but do you really think it's worth it to cut a thicker piece with the risers? I was just going to use the CNC for the shape. A this point I will only have the CNC no manual mill. Might buy a cheap one for the odd stuff but not sure yet. I wish I had the cool machine you did it on, but that's way outside the home shop

Just in case your interested this is the CNC Mill I bought for the new shop. It's small but large enough to do most parts and totally ready to go out of the box. If you know anything about these mills this is a great price for a well made CNC Mill.

Nice! I just today retired a little benchtop Taig CNC mill we've been abusing for the past 7 years. Wish I could justify replacing it with something that nice, but we just do a small engraving routine with it.

I'm really pumped to get the shop up and running. It's been a long wait. I am changing doors and adding an overhead industrial door to the house before I start moving the valuable stuff in there. With the cold weather it's hard to cut a big hole in the side of the house. All the tools and machines are in storage like the bikes. But it all will be worth it once I'm in there. Not much I won't be able to do. Plus now that I'm retired I can work when I want and not when I have to.

WOW!

@ Corrupt File, nice work on the RR cooler, any problems with clearance?

A bit tight with the fuel line, but I was replacing mine anyways so I just made it a bit longer to clear the fan without it being tight.
