Default Winter projects done

Had a bitof time over the winter to clean up my bike and do some work on it. I rolled it into my living room, stripped it down and went at it for the last coupla months. I painted the rearsets, passenger pegs, engine covers, and swingarm in these pics. All paint was done withspray cans. The engine covers were done with a high temp ceramic gloss paint, then clear coated. Everything else was doneusing flat black spray paint.

It was pretty easy to do: cleaned everything, sanded it down to rough it up, cleaned again to get rid of the sand bits, wiped down with alcohol, then sprayed. I put about 5-6 light coats on everything, rather than 2-3 thicker coats.

I then did the gas cap and filled in the letters with a regular crayon. I also changed the yellow TwoBros. logo to red(using an airbrush) so that it'dmatch the scheme of the rest of the bike...

Then I painted the brake calipers red using a kit I got from Wal-Mart (thanks to dballer for the idea), and I added mesh, which I spray painted red, to the air intakes...

To add some flare, and as a safety measure to my soon to bemuch blacker bike, I pinstriped my tribal decals with red reflective tape (thanks doncollins for this idea). This was a painstaking process that probably took me about 10 hours (maybe more, I lost count). You can also see that I painted my mesh black, as they were just the aluminum before. I also made my own Chinese kanji decal with the reflective tape (it says dragon which is my last name)...

Also re-covered my seat using a carbon fibre vinyl material I got off eBay. The company Luimoto hasthe front seat cover onlylisted on eBay for $29 + $15 shipping for the exact same thing. I boughta56"x36" piece ofmaterial for $27, then sold a smaller piece to somebody else for $20. Iremoved my old seat, took apart the stitching, matched up the pieces and cut them out, then got my aunt to sew it back like the stock seat, and restapled. It came out perfectand only costed me $7 to redo both rider and passenger seats, rather thanbuy just the front for$44. Not only that, I don't have to have the Luimoto logoon my seat so it looks cleaner...

Here are pics of the engine covers and rearsets back on the bike. I also did the main heat shield with the same high temp gloss black. I got a carbon fibre rear hugger, whichI painted the underside red,and heat shield just before winter last year. All the bolts and screws were painted black as well...

Swingarm, cleaned up chain (used kerosene and a toothbrush and it looks good as new), painted chain guard. It's an aluminum Puig chain guard I got off eBay which I painted flat black, and then added the red sweeps. I love the look of this whole back section and the red accents really make it stand out...

My CRG shorty levers, new gel grips and carbon fibre bar ends (got them all off eBay). Funny story about the grips, when I first tried to put them on before winter they wouldn't fit. I thought, great I'm stuck with these awesome new grips that I can't use, what a waste. Thenlast week Idecided to tryagain, and what do ya know, they fit. What I didn't realize was the throttle handle had a larger diameter and the grips had one side with a largeropening than the other. I was trying to put the wronggrip on the wrong handle the first time [:@]. Anyways, here's the pic along withmy new seat on the bike...

And the final result...

You can see the red mesh in the intake, as well as the reflective tape working its magic. I'll try to get one up what it looks like in the dark later on. Also got a dark smoke Puig double bubble windscreen. I had a regular smoked one before, but sold so that I could get this one to make it more stealth looking. I'm gonna add a dragon-head decal on it later when my buddyfinishes making it for me.

I've also got 8000K HIDs (see here: 1 2)which I decided to install in just the low beam side, it's more than bright enough. I didn't want them on both sides because I wanted the option of being able to flicker my high beam, plus now I have an extra HID in caseone blows. I removed my tool kit and mounted my ballast in it's place with zip ties. I routed the wires under my right air duct and through my steeringstem...
