Slow starter
Help! I have just, after 25 years, bought another lovely CBR600. This one is a 1997 model, has recently, according to the seller, just been serviced but takes a while to get started. Usually takes about 8-10 pokes of the button before it fires properly. Once started & warmed up it starts at first touch of the button & runs perfectly with no misfires or stutters. It is a joy to ride after not having a sports bike for a quarter of a century, I have never in that time not had a bike & at one time 7 were in my garage Oops! I wondered if maybe the fuel was draining back or whether there is an electrical issue. All suggestions other than selling it would be welcome. Thanks fellow Hondaerists. Hedley (Clive)
Thanks dennisgb for the reply. According to the seller it was recently serviced so I shall ask the garage what they did on that service. The guy that did it is a Honda mechanic so hopefully knows what he is doing. Once started it runs beautifully, having said that the choke doesn't seem to make it run particularly fast on full so maybe that needs attention. Back to the drawing board.
They need choke to start so check that first if you suspect a problem. Should have high idle with choke on until warm then will start to studder and choke can come off. Fuel delivery also should be checked. Petcocks can fail due to age. Fuel filter plugged, etc. Your symptoms indicate a fuel delivery problem when cold because it runs good when warm.
Very glad to say that all is now resolved. The lever was not fully closing the choke but I have now sorted it. Bike is now running like a Honda precision timepiece. A bunny of the very happy type here. CBR600f = smiley face.
