Default Silly Key question

I lost my key to my 1990 CBR600, when I moved. I went to the local Honda dealership toget a new one, and they told me Ihave to take the lock apart to find a number for the key. The question is, does anyone know the size and style of the 2torque bolts? Does any one know an easyer way?
Any help would be awesome !!!

Thx Randy

Don't know an easier way. The bolt heads are 10mm A/F on mine.

I pulled my lock off and took it down to a locksmith. The guy stood there at the counter with a blank key, a bench grinder, and a file and made a new key, by hand, in about 10 minutes. It was really cool to watch, too. Kind of a lost art form, almost.

Cost? $21.

I suggest you pull it out and try a locksmith. There's no way in hell you'll get a key at the dealer for $20.

just get a set of torx bits. i had to do this once before. i'd have to check when i get back home. when you take the key barrel off, underneath will be 4 digits. take the barrel to the dealer, show them the 4 digits and they can cut you a key. i say take the barrel to the dealer becuase if they cut it wrong and you can't check it, you'd have to make a return trip. i had to do this twice as the guy who cut my keys did it backwards.

I was hopeing to get away with just buying the one torx bit socket. Instead of the whole set, because I have never really needed one before. Im gonna go try a 10mm one.
And the lock smith route, im told will be about $150 from the local lock smith.
thx guys for the info, hopefully ill get things worked out this weekend.

I wonder if that $150 quote from the locksmith is if HE comes to YOU. I think if you took the lock down to them, it should be waaay cheaper. But you never know. Locksmiths, plumbers, electricians; you know the drill.

Well the good news is that I got the right TORX bit. And I got one screw out no problem! the horrible horrible news. Is who ever had it before me striped the other screw completly. I don't know, maybe they put it in with a impact gun? Maybe someone tried to steal it? Im not sure. So im thinking idhave to take the handle bars off and use a easy out? Which im not sure im comfortable reassembling. So im just gonna get the lock smith over on monday, hopefully he won't screw it up either lolol

thx guys
