Default RE: Sidestand question

I definitely will. I just thought of a funny thing. When I purchased this bike, the guy who sold it to me made a comment along the lines of "The best thing about this bike is that you don't have to clean the carbs" I gave him a sideways look like riiiiigggghhhttt. I've had a 82 Yamaha XV 920 and a 79 Yamaha XS 750. That comment right there let me know that the carbs have never been cleaned. I'm going to take them this weekend to get cleaned. Does anyone else make it a habit of turning the petcock to the off position when not in use. My 79 XS 750 had manual petcockes, so it just kind of stuck with me to do the same on the Cane

ha thats funny cuz it seems like every member on here's first problem is messing with the carbs one way or another. I'm sure its not bad practice switching your petcock off, but even though im not riding mine because of the weather, I feel like i run it enough for it to not matter. I guess its just preference

It is actually a recomended practice to shut the fuel off when the bike is not in use. That way if you have a needle stick in a carb you dont drain the fuel tank into the crankcase.
