Default Racing my CBR600

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I guess a bit new to cbr600's as well. I used to own a CBr600RR back in 2003, but that is quite a bit different bike.
After a long time of searching I finally found a 1987 CBR600 trackbike for sale, and I bought it unseen at saturday. The bike is on it's way to my home here in Norway as we speak.
My plan is to race the bike in the Norwegian classic racing series, in a class for bikes produced between 1980 and 1987.
The bike has some trick bits in the chassis. Like a 1992 fork with ohlins internals and ohlins rear shock. 3.5" front wheel and 5" rear.

The engine is all stock, and that is what is going to get my attention next.

I want a reliable and strong engine. Not necessary a hp monster. But an eager reliable engine.

Here is the plan:
Balanced and lightened crank
Performance con-rods (Carrillo)
1mm overbore pistions (Wiseco)
Cylinder head work
Performance cams (Megacycle)
Full race exhaust (D&D?)
Electronic programmable ignition

The problem is that much of this stuff is no longer in production. So I have a bit of scavenging to do.
Any help on finding these items, or items of equal quality would be appreciated. Especially the Carrillo con-rods will be difficult to obtain I think.
I suspect this engine job will be costly as well. So every help to keep costs down will also be appreciated. Like the exhaust, it don't have to be brand new. So if anyone have some nice parts, please let me know.

A set of 32-34mm perfomance carbs would be nice to have on such a build. But buying a new set in the shop will blow my budget right now. If anyone have some nice used ones, please send me a message.

Cheers
svein

Default Racing my CBR600

A brief update.

Went to the harbour last last thursday and picked up my latest "track tool". It was the first time I had ever seen the bike aswell. Well, it was not much of a looker. But it has all the right parts and is a perfect basis for my build. So actually it was a big boost.
I've managed to do some scawenging. A new D&D full exhaust is on its way from the US. Ignitech ignition system is on its way from what used to be beyond the iron curtain. A set of CBR600 F3 upper/lower fairings, and F1 racetail is on its way from UK. And a seatpad has already made its way from Thailand.

Had a little accident in the garage this weekend. Tried to remove som big dents in the petrol tank using pressurised air. Well, seemes like the dents stayed put, but my petrol tank now looks like the Michelin man
A new one is now making its way from Germany.

Also, the original tank cap kind of sucked. So if someone knows anyone who makes keyless tank caps, please let me know.
The same goes for alomst everything on my list. Con rods, pistions, cams, carbs, are all things I would really like to get my hands on.

Cheers
Svein

The bike runs on 180/55-17 rear and 120/70-17 front. I would probably benefit more from a narrower tire, because the F1 is not that powerful. But running the same dimensions as modern bikes gives me a much wider choice of tires. I can now run the same tires as I know very well from my other racebikes. And to me that is an advantage.

So that is not a stock F1 swing arm correct? even though it looks it.

I was under the impression a 180 tire wouldn't fit onto a stock F1 swing arm.

Yes, the swingarm is stock. But the rear wheel is from a Suzuki GSXR1100.

Default Tank - Keyless Gas Tank

I have a tank similar to your black one on your bike in the picture. I will be glad when I have someone buy it since its just sitting in my basment. I think you may be able to purchase a keyless tank gas tank via china on Ebay.
