Default Idling problems....

Hey guys,

Got a 1987 Honda Hurricane that's been starting up no problems, sometimes I would put the choke lever on for a couple of seconds and then I would start riding on my way...

Now when I get to the first stop sign or light, it stalls out and I have to restart again...

It's been idling right below 1000 rpms and then eventually stalls out if I don't rev the throttle a little bit.
When it was Idling fine it was right about 1500 rpms...

What can I do to fix this?

Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem and the suggestion I had gotten was to turn up the idle screw... to between 1300 and 1700. I believe its on the left side. Small adjustments go along way so take it slow.

Just screw that idle screw in a turn or so. 1500 is normal.

one minor detail. be sure the bike is warmed up before making idle adjustments.

Hey guys,

In the manual, "Ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the spark unit is non-adjustable. If ignition timing is incorrect, make a saprk unit system inspection and replace the faulty parts."

But it does mention under Ignition timing connecting a timing light and to make sure the "F" mark aligns with the index mark on the rightside crankcase cover.

Sorry very new to this and just want to be sure...

Thanks.

I had the same problem, stall out at 1k at stop signs after a second or two of sitting right! Ok just turn the idle adjustment screw, with bike warm up to 1300-1500rpms. Mine is at 1400 Strong!

I just tried turning the ignition timing screw and I unscrewed a screw to the crankcase.... I can see the crankcase spinning while warming up the bike.

I've got the manual and it says and I can't adjust the ignition timing....is there any other way to adjust the idling? Is ignition timing and idling the same?

you want to adjust idle at the carbs. there should be a tube with a **** on the end of it that you can see with the left side panel off in the area of the access panel. if it's dark you'll need a light but it will be there. turn that **** (make sure bike is warmed up) slowly a quarter turn at a time, blip the throttle and let the idle settle. see where idle is and if still low, adjust accordingly.

Thanks michigan,

I found that screw on the left side that had like a black **** over it and that turned out to be it and now I got my rpms @ approx. 1400-1500 rpms.

Appreciate all the advice.

I was just wondering how come in the manual it doesn't mention anything about that ****.

Thanks Again.
