i have a 1988 cbr 600 and it is absolutely spotless..but.. i had physical issues and it has sat for a couple of years..i know all about stale gas and stuff , but before i garaged it it would run awhile and quit...pulled the fuel line of of filter and no gas coming thru from tank..tookthe petcock out and apart and it seems to be free flowing on reserve and on position...which points me to tank venting...where is the vent in the gas cap??? i took it to a honda dealer with the problem and they said they removed the fuel pump as it will run fine being gravity fed...well it still did the same thing with no fuel coming from tank after it stalled...any ideas fellow CBR people???
They absolutely don't run fine being gravity fed. The tank vent is built into the cap and has the overflow around it so it can drain to behind the right foot controls and out on the ground.
The petcock is a wear item, especially with modern ethanol blend fuels. If you store it with any fuel in it it will corrode the internals of the petcock. Just buy a new one for $25ish and call it good. I hope you drained the carbs before you stored it, or they will be in worse shape than the petcock.

tnx for the advice!!! i ordered the petcock and a new fuel filter from amazon and also a new battery....had a friend stop by yesterday who is a senior member of a motorcycle club who is also the lead tech at a local chevy dealer...he also does work on bikes so he is going to give me a hand on this beast..i just have to make sure there is plenty of soda cookies in fridge!!! any other info will help...he said not to order the fuel pump YET!! we are going to see how it runs without it first and if that does not work then i will get a new fuel pumphip for it,,,,,tnx again Chip #35
Hey guys, tnx for the feed back from all..if you guys saw what kind of condition this thing is in you would fall in love with it,,,it is unfair to the bike to just have it wrapped in flannel in a heated and a/c garage..cant wait to get it going again...i will keep you all in touch with the progress...it is the Hurricane that was charcoal gray and black with red rims...better looking than some girls i used to date !!!tnx all Chip #35
