Default constant fuel flow when petcock is on?

hi guys, I took off my tank to drain out and check if there were any debris inside. When my petcock was on 'res', there was a constant flow of gas, and when it was on 'on' a little bit of gas came out. I had about 1 gal of gas in there.. was on low on gas?

off - no fuel comes out
normal - fuel line extends an inch up into the tank (so debris wont get in there) and has less pressure.
res - hole in the bottom, therefore biggest pressure and most fuel pressure

Could have been depending on where the gas falls in the tank. The reserve is designed to stay full when the main tank runs down. I don't know what the reserve capacity is but if the bike was sitting right to where the fuel in the primary was elsewhere then the reserve would flow better.

I usually have to switch to reserve when I have about a gallon left. So what you are describing is normal.

This method is essentially your fuel gauge. After filling up, switch the tank over to on. As you're running around, the fuel level will drop below what "on" can supply and you'll have to switch over to "res". This lets you know that you need to make a stop for fuel.

there is no reserve "tank" one hose just doesn't reach all the way to the bottom of the tank while the other does.

When you switch from On to Reserve, there is about .8 gallons remaining. For me, that's about 34 more miles before empty.
