Here is a short story of my PC23 from model year 1989. Originally sold to Germany, but in some point later imported to Finland. I bought it 2 years ago.
Now it has seen roads for 55,000 kilometres. It's amazing how it has avoided being beated up too badly all these years.
Last winter I stripped the bike to bolts and nuts and gave it a good overhaul. Brakes, carbs, shocks and some other wearing parts were either renewed or reconditioned. I left engine and gearbox untouched because there was no issues or strange sounds at all.
I guess bike is laid down from stand by some previous owner. Right side fairings and both mirrors had scuffs and some cracks too. These were poorly patched with superglue, few shovels of putty and lousy paintjob done with rattle cans.
I took a challenge to fix the plastics myself. Refabricating broken or missing tabs and filling cracks with ABS cement was not too difficult. Paint prep works took very many nights and some iterations were needed.
But most feared part for me was the new paintjob. I had done it only once before in my life using proper airgun. And that was with 1-stage direct finish top coat. Now there was 5 stages: primer, silver/red/black base coats and clear coat finish. Screw up the masking between different colors or fail the top coat and you will have to start all over!
Well, fortunately that was not the case. All parts ended up looking either good or excellent. I was utterly surprised having such skills Undamaged plastics and tank needed some buffing and waxing. Then overall detailing to smaller parts and bike was ready to ride!
These pics are from last season's ending trip in October 2013. New season shall be opened during April in Finland - when snow is gone
Tail rack spoils the look of back end, but it's very necessary for overnight trips etc.
