Evil handling
Ok, so I finally was able ride the 88 I just got couple weeks ago. I installed fresh tires, front and rear, fresh fluid in the forks and this bugger is down right scary.
I can simple roll down the road in first gear, blip the throttle and the bike noticeable ties itself in a knot.
Now, I bought this bike, dirt cheap, knowing it had been down.
My question is, are the Hurricanes known for, say, swingarm or steering stem bearings, biting the dust in an accident?
I've already pull it back off the street knowing it needs more attention. I just wondered if there was something in particular I should be looking for. I know, from prior experience, these bikes don't handled like this.

I've ordered up the three bearings for the swingarm and an All ***** tapered roller conversion for up from on the stem.
I would still like to know if I need to be on the look out for anything in particular.

Here is an interesting update. Someone has been in the swingarm before.
After work today, I decide to get the back half of the bike ready for swingarm bearing removal. As soon as I got the arm off, I was left staring at an exposed needle bearing. And I'm not speaking about the seal, I'm talk about a missing collar!
Mystery solved and extra parts ordered. Yikes!

Just to wrap this thread up, the missing collar is what ended up being wrong.
That's not a part I usually associate with being non-present. So lesson learned. Go over every inch of a bike that's been down, as a new owner.

Some people shouldn't own motorcycles. That missing part had nothing to do with the bike being down...other than it may have been the cause of it going down. I think your talking about an axel spacer...how could that have been missing? Scares me and it's why any old bikes I work on get the entire treatment.
No, I'm not talking about an axle spacer. That would have been plainly obvious when I took the wheel off to change the tire. I'm talking about the left side collar in the swingarm pivot. There are three. Left, medium size. Middle, longest. And the right, which is the shortest of the three.
And it could have very well been from the result of the bike being down, judging by the 'spares' I was given.
As it is, I have to tear the frontend back down. It just doesn't feel quite right.
I wager that there is a ball bearing missing from the pack!
