dont know what the problem is ??
I have an 87 600 hurricane my bike has had some crazy ticking to it getting worse and worse. I have done a really good tune up with spark plugs and such. When the bike is in low rpms it seems to be worse. it is like a high pitched ticking and the ticks are very close in timing. It seems to reduce in noise when rpms are higher and the bike goes for a quick boot but once you turn it off it starts all over.If anyone hasany ideas that would be great I want to fix itthanks.
how bad of a job is that to do???? for the cct and valve shims and springs and what are the valve shims??, someone a while ago had told me it could be the lifters but i did not trust him he always says it the lifters,ex if your wheel falls off he would say, yup yup its those lifters. I meanit could be the problem for making the noises and such but I wanted to get more advice from the guys that actually have a bike and ride. Thank you for your advices......
could be something simple like the CCT or it could be something worse in the valve train. is it like a pinging, or like BBs rattling in a can? pull the plastics off and try to isolate where the noise is coming from, top end of the motor, or bottom end. could be something broken in the valve train like a rocker arm or something else, but it could also be piston or rod noise, which is even worse than something in the VT.
Odds are CCT or loose valves on this one, as our engines dont have lifters or pushrods, its a OHC so the lobes push directly on the valves/springs. So, you should order yourself a cam chain tensioner and get a valve job. Might as well replace the rear cam chain guide while youre in there.
Just a side note, you have checked for an exhaust leak correct?
