cut my exhaust ?
I just got a really nice OEM 600F2 muffler today. I am going to try to get it to fit my 89 F1 Hurricane. I have a full D & D system on at the moment, so I took off the D & D muffler and temporarily attached the F2 muffler to the D & D midpipe to see how it sounds. I love how quiet it is... but to get the muffler mount to line up under the rear footpegs where it should line up, I will have to cut some of the D & D midpipe. I think it will work, but I am wondering if I get it all cut, how will it run with the OEM muffler in place of the free flowing D & D. Once I cut it, I can't easily go back... with the fact that there is a D & D header and a jet kit installed by the PO, do you think it will run okay with an OEM muffler stuck on the back of all these mods? Worst case scenario, I buy a used OEM header and readjust the whole carb setup in the late winter/early spring, but it would be sweet to get the F2 muffler on there tomorrow ;-)
It will be a little rich. How much is hard to say and how it will affect rideability is unknown.
Measure twice and cut once.
I have a D&D that I shortened and welded some washers that I cut in half in the baffle to quieten mine down a little.
You should be able to still ride with the richer jets unless the PO went crazy and richened it up a lot or did other mods to the carbs (needles, drilled slides etc)

Thanks... so far so good. I will try to get a pic up here some time with the new F2 muffler. It ran pretty well in the short ride I did after putting it on. I cut the midpipe, the OEM muffler lined up okay, and I like the look and sound much better. According to the dealer I bought the bike from, the PO did a pretty extreme jet setup and drilled the slides, too.. the airbox is drilled as well. He said I can move the needles down a step to make it run less rich, but I have no idea how to do this - It is way too rich in my opinion, but runs pretty well. I will have it sorted out at a honda dealer in the Spring I hope.

Here is how it looks now that it is on the bike. Sounds really great, but now I can hear the CCT making noise even more ;-)
