Default bike sputters after running for awhile

got a 87 600 cane, just put new plugs in it. when you start the bike it runs good (has slight miss now and then seems like) after riding the bike for at least an hour it'll act like it losses all power and sputters off and on and then will come out of it, but then will seem like it losses all power sputtering and the harder you twist the throttle the worse it sounds and acts and will die. after letting it sit for awhile it'll start and be fine. had carbs rebuilt last year and never did it all last year, but now does? any ideas on what it could be

welcome to the forums. that is an odd problem, especialy since you can ride it for an hour before it starts to act up.. what does the temp gauge show when it does this?
only thing i can think of is possibly the alternator or voltage regulator is on the edge of dieing. when the motor heats up, resistance goes up, causing charging/ignition problems to become more apparant.

Sounds like it's related to fuel delivery to me. Bike gets plenty of fuel at idle, has plenty in the float bowls, but isn't able to keep up over extended period of times and eventually the float bowls drown out. Does stopping for a while and letting it IDLE before riding again help? If so, I bet it's your fuel pump is on the way out.

I tried just letting it idle but as soon as i pull over and let it idle it dies and wont start again unless i put the choke on and as soon as i turn the choke off after it starts i have too give it throttle or it'll die right away. it'll sputter real bad as i give it throttle also. i have to literealy have the choke on over half way to keep it running when it acts up. it does it more on hotter days also and when the temp gauge is just over half way mark it'll do it alot more no matter if im intown on the streets or on the road at speed. it doesn't really do it at night i've noticed unless i've been riding it hard and temp get just over the 1/2 way mark

Well now, that's interesting! I have no advice for you at the moment, sorry!

Doesn't the 87 Hurricane have a fuel pump? If so, maybe it is on the way out and acts up when it gets hot. Fuel filters?

My bike did the same thing. Sounds like its starving for air. check your fuel to air mixture by adjusting your carbs.
