What year 'bird is the "best"???????
I'm love sick over 'birds !!!!!!!!!! Whats what, concerning years and revisions. About all I know is... started w/ carbs... then FI... advantages/ reliabitity issues/ handle'n/ fit and finish/ HP and torque changes /definative year and model ????????? Can you lucky'bird men help me, make good choices ????? I NEEEED one !!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS, Clean and free, Ripp'n
1997 and 1998 are Carb'd models, '99 to 2003 FI.
They changed to digital speedo etc, I believe in 2000.
Any bike is going to have a weakness somewhere, the Blackbird has a tendency to go thru Regulators/Rectifiers and Stators (The VFR is a great bike and also had a R/R weakness in some years)
You can get a good deal on a Blackbird, people are starting to list them now (I assume before it cools down).
Just look for a clean, low mileage one-there are plenty out there.

I had a 1998 XX before I got my CBR 1000rr. I would get a 99 or higher just for the fuel injection alone. Only thing is there are not to many companies that make 4-2-1 exhaust for that bike. I had a two brothers on mine. At that time they were making full systems to include headers
as funny as this may seem wikipedia has the best description of the xx and the timeline of revisions that i have seen. definatly check it out on their website it gives a great history.
