Does anyone here have any experience with resurrecting a CBR with low mileage back from the dead? I'm looking for what parts, hoses, seals etc to keep an eye on. This is a bike with a Two Brothers exhaust the one that has two cans stacked on top of the other. The bike does start and sounds like it runs on all four cylinders but is reluctant to start and if the throat is twist there is a bit of black smoke when cold..

 

I have not brought back a blackbird at least not yet ! but have several older CBR's and two VF 1000 interceptors that I have done - I'd be eyeballing the usual - fork seals
brake lines and seals (I'd do right away as a matter of safety along with new rubber
then just run some techron or any kind of fuel injector cleaner through her and see whereshe's @ depending on exhaust condition maybe need some header work and of course new hoses for cooling and maybe valve cover gasket if hardened up

02cents. Thank you for the reply. W I hadn't thought about the valve cover gaskets but it does make sense. Given the age of these bikes has there been instances of the brakelines expanding?

 

I wouldn't think so unless you see some cracking. If you are worried, maybe go with SS lines.

Ok I got the bike home. It needs a good cleaning and the fuel cap needs replaced as the previous owner had drilled out the lock. There are also some missing fairing bolts. I took the bike for a spin around the block and it is powerful!
