Default Tach stuck at 8000 rpm

First off let me say you guys have provided lots of great knowledge since I've been following this forum. I ride an RC51 but two of my best friends have 1000rr's and they are incredible bikes. Unfortunately one is having a problem though. He was riding today and his tach got stuck at 8000 rpm. Everything is running fine and there is no weird noises from anywhere. Does this mean the engine is throwing a code? Or??
Thanks in advance.
