Default Suspension Adjustment

I just bought a 06' 1kRR a couple of weeks ago and would like to set up the suspension for myself. I've never done this before, can anyone let me know how I should go about it? I've heard/read that setting suspension is essential to getting the bike to its full potential.

Thanks!

I would start by going to see a suggested setup for your bike click here: CBR Suspension Settings

Before eveyone goes nuts with this topic- this is only a starting point and you COULD have your suspension custom set for your needs. I will say that the suggested suspension changes, noted on the linked web page, did make a noticable difference in the way the bike handles for me and I am very happy with those changes.

If you are unsure what each lable means (i.e. pre-load, rebound, etc), then refer to your manual starting on page 122. There you will find diagrams showing what each adjuster looks like and it will show where it is located.

I also read tons about suspension set up, but I overwhelmed myself with reading different articles. I ended up taking my bike in to a performance shop and had them set the suspension. I took all of 20 to 30 minutes. I along with two techs performed the adjustments. There were several measurments taken, me off the bike, we picked the bike up and measured, and me on the bike. I wish I was able to recount the entire process. I paid about 30 bucks to have it done....

Does the bike feel different, I haven't had an opportunity to really test it just yet. I will say the bike was not that far out of adjustment from the factory specs. I'm 6' and 175 lbs.

Default RE: Suspension Adjustment

I just bought my bike, actually picking it up tomorrow, and I am buying the bike from a guy that looked to be about 6'4" 240lbs and I am a hair under 6' 180lbs.

I am going to ask him if he modified the suspension for his settings, but if he didnt, would/could it affect the bike going from such a big guy to me? Should I ride it for a week or so and then get it checked, or just do it right away?

Thanks for the help, I plan on actively using this site since I just got my bike.
