Default Sliders?

Ijust bought an 07 repsol and brought it home friday. Sunday I installed sliders, but i put them on the top bolts, For those with an 07 or probably an 06 should know what im talking about. Getting on the freeway this evening I hit some oil or something, with cold tires and it was moist from the Marine Layer, anyways I low Sided and the bike slidout from under me, after bouncing and watching it slide across the road I picked it up and checked it out. The fairings and swing arm were fine but the stater cover was scratched and i chipped a piece of the rear fairing above the vent on the seat. And the clutch is bent in a U, anyways the question is had i have put the sliders on the bottom bolt the stater cover would have been fine, but does anyone know if the fairing would still be intact. Im asking for tomorrow when i replace the sliders, should i keep them where they are.

Sliders are meant to take the damage and prevent your frame from getting scratched or even bent. They will usually only protect case covers in a tip-over situation as opposed to a crash while moving. Nothing will protect plastic, other than taking it off completely.
