RAPPING HEADER AND OR EXHUAST WITH HEAT TAPE
Hi everyone, I hear everyone is wrapping there pipes and or header. Can you tell me what stuff to use, where to get it and what to wrap. I hear it is done so you dont melt your sides. And that it is better to keep the heat in. Please any help would be apreciated.

I had my header Jet-Hot coated. I do not think wrapping a header is a good idea. Have you ever seen a set of headers that have been wrapped. If your just wrapping part of it tokeep the fairings from getting hot I would think it would be ok. But wrapping the full header It will not last. My last set of headers on my drag car were wrapped. At the end of the season. I pulled the motor out. I grabbed one side of the headers and bent it in half by hand.
I just would not wrap the full header.
My motor runs cooler with the exhaust being Jet-hot coated. Sent my header in to them and from start to finish I had it back in 8 days. They can also do a rush order where you will have it back in 4 days, but costs about $100 bucks more.

Heat wise to your right leg, it didn't work as well as the heatshield. I used a Thermo Tec wrap and also sprayed the Thermo Tec ummmm..... I forgot what it was called but it's supposed to improve the "Heatshieldingness" of the wrap. Sorry, I just got off of work and can't really think right now. Hey but looks wise, it's HOT!! So if you're going for looks, wrap your pipe(not headers).Hope this helps.

There's no need to wrap your header pipe. I'd like to see any proof of power gains, and it certainly isn't necessary for preventing heat damage to plastic. Thermo wraps are useful if you have replacement fiberglass body work, which is known to melt and bubble in extreme heat. If you don't have track plastic mounted, save your $$$ for tires.
