Default Road Grime and waxing intervals

Anyone have any suggestions on the best product for removing the chain wax overthrown from the chain that gets on the swingarm and aluminum tidbits. Spray-on degreaser I have tried, but just don't like the idea of getting it on the paint.
Speeking of chain wax, I have been informed that every 100 to 150 miles the chain should get a shot of wax. Does this sound accurate to all of you... seemed kind of excessive to me.

500 miles is the recommended chain lube time. You can look at your chain and tell if it needs to be lubed or not. As far as chain lube getting on the paint, I dunno I just use my regular car wash soap and rub it off. As far as getting it off the swingarm, non-painted parts etc. I use Honda chrome cleaner/polish. Takes it right off.

WD40 with a dry rag works a treat and leaves a glossy shine
