Oil change
Hey guys i just bought a 2005 cbr 1000 rr and I think it's time for an oil change. Any sudjustions on what kind of oil I should use. And the oil filter should I use the Honda part or something elts.
I'm in the EXACT same boat as you. Same year, same bike. I've been doing research for the past week or more, on oils and such. I've already got a K&N oil filter, so I'm set there. But for oil, i've been reading that the "best" oil is, Repsol 4t 10w-50 Race oil. But its like 13$ a quart. So, I'm probably gonna go with Mobile 1 Full Synth 10w-40. It says in the service manual and owners manual as well what oils to recommend.
Over the years I've read a lot of crap about oil, used a lot of different ones and I finally "settled" on using Honda dino oil. I've never had any problems whatsoever and it's not expensive. I'll give you a little tip on the oil change: leave the two bottom fairing pieces fastened together and take the top allenhead bolts out and remove them in one piece. When you've got the bike on a rear stand there's plenty of room to take them off together.
Well, i just finished my first oil change. I did bring a 2nd set of hands, but easily doable solo. I used Mobil 1 Racing 4t 10w-40, with a K&N oil filter. Seems to be running fine. Let you know in 3000 miles.
