Not sure about the oil but if your brake fluid and the clutch fluid is black it's not a good thing. Change them and you wont bellive the difference. And if you have some extra cash put in some nice stainless steel lines to. Huge difference. Just put in SS lines on my and it's fantastic for fast riding and track. Cheers.

One more thing. Make sure you take off all the plastics or you'll regret it if a bit of brake fluid drops on it. Don't even ask how i know this ;-( good luck.

My bike was delivered new from the dealer with black clutch fluid. My 888 had kevlar lines and the fluid would be black with in a couple months. My 916 with rubberand thenstainless lines was black. My '91 GSXR 1100 the fluid was black. ALL cluths worked flawless with the fluid this color. Every hydralic clutch I have ever seen has black fluid unless it is only a few days old. There is nothing I have found you can do about it, just change it as recommended. The fact that is is black I can not explain, but it is not an issue. It can not have anything to do with the lines as hinted at or the brake would look exactly the same in about the same amount of time.

Just to throw anotherone out. I was told once it has to do with the Aluminum pistos in the slave unit and the slight wearing of the metal turns the fluid black.

Some day I hope to learn the real answer.

my 1000rr came with black clutch fluid as well

who knows why but i do know that it has been flushed a few times and although it is darker than the brake fluid it is not as black as it came

its a closed system so its not like engine oil or clutch material is getting into it. must be because of the heat of the engine right beside the line
