by the way, i own about 40 firearms, mostly hand-me-downs from my father and grandfather. my personal choice of ccw is a glock 23 or walther ppk/s.

Guys, guys, guys, calm down...........This is a CBR forum not a gun show.....LOL Remember the title of this forum "My 06' 1000rr break in schedule"?...LOL..........So much for that...........I do like some of those bolt action sniper rifles. Though, it would not be fun to shoot a thief right outside your bedroom window with one of them. I would wait until the thief has the bike & is riding it with full confidence towards the first intersection before I put .223 round in his head................ooops, I am getting carried away off topic again...................So how about them Steelers? LOL

yeah cpldam, consider your thread hijacked! as far as the break in question, seems a little overkill to me (on the oil changes) but i cannot say that i wouldn't be the same way if i just dropped that kind of money on a new bike. just read the owner's manual and see what it says to do. then compare your chart to it and do what makes you feel like the proper care is taken care of. just dont jump on it, redline it, and ignore oil changes and everything will be fine.

As long as aluminium & other garbage metal residues are visible in the used oil, I will continue to change it as frequently as possible. Of course the drained oil will still be good for use at 300 or 400 miles after an oil change, but what about all the dirt metals in there? & for all of you who let it pass 1500 miles before changing oil, I have this to say: are you waiting for your oil to go bad before you change it? for that would be too late. it should be changed before it goes bad, & not after. As far as the company's manual is concerned, well they dont care. Do you think they're gonna overwhelm you with detailed information? All the company cares about is that your bike makes it pass your first year so that you'd be off the warranty. But if we want our bikes to last concidering the way we ride them, then we should change oil more frequently (I believe every 1000-1500, depends on your inpection of the drained oil). I've read many reports about riders sending their used oil to labs for inspection, & it was determined that the vescosity starts to break around 1500 miles. Anyway, here's my improved oil change schedule for my new bike.
oil change immediately after purchase.
oil change at 200-300 miles
oil change at 500-600 miles
oil change at 900-1000 miles
will perform frequent oil changes until no visible metals are detected in drained oil.
FYI always change filters on evey oil change.

Ha nice gun show.. I just broke my 05 in and I didn't rev it over 6k for the first 600. Serviced it, wiped with a diper.. Then didn't rode it to 8k twice utill 1000k. I'm at 1300k now and ride it however , still witout redlining it, and with oil change number 2 on the way. After all, I figure that it's Honda and theyre making a killing on all the extended warrenties they sell.
