Default Got pulled over today

I went for a nice long ride today. On my way back I was driving through a town that I don't normally drive through and I saw a cop sitting in the center median. I had cars in front and behind me and we were actually moving below the speed limit. No sooner did I pass by him he pulls out and makes his way though the cars behind me and pulls me over. When he asked me for my paperworkI asked him what exactly it was that he was pulling me over for. He said that he could not clearly see myplate. Then hesaid it was so hard to see that he couldn't even make out any of the numbers on it. I have the Competition WerksFender Eliminator, the SS one that mounts in front of the rear tire. I think that the plate is just as clearly visable as the stock setup. Then he said, also you have a headlight out. I told him that's how theheadlights were designedto work. Anyway just wondering if anyone else with this FE has been hastled about it. I didn't get any tickets, but I'm hoping that this is not going to be a regularoccurance.

In most states it's not legal, the plate needs to be at the rear of the bike. If you choose to run your plate in an illegal spot you might have to get use to getting harrased for it.

I never checked the laws in New Jerseyas far asplate location, but I did take it right through a NJ State Inspection Center and they didn't havea problem with it. I've seen bikes with the plates mounted sideways to the swingarm, bolted up under the undertail where there hardly visalbe, no plate light at all etc. I guessI'll just have to see if it happens again.

What he said. It may be legal to have those type of kits but if for any reason the officer says he couldn't see it then he can pull you over. Also don't forget that alot of bikes get stolen every year and the theifs will try what ever to hinder their chances of getting caught. Putting a fake tag on but putting it in a place where it satisifies the need for a tag but at the same time not as easy to see.

But the headlight thing he should have known. Small town cops.............

I know in MD that is enough probable cause to pull you over. MD law state that it must be visible from 50 feet away and mount in a horizontal position. So if you can't read the tag from about 3.5 car lenghts of a crown vic than you can get stopped. Depending on the officer they are most likely checking for stolen bikes, suspended drivers and other things. If you don't want to get stopped just move it, I did.

last year on the way to the outer banks for a trip with my brother we went through 4 liscense stops on the 5-hr drive down.....spread about an hour apart

all did a 360 around my bike, asked for liscense/reg....wich i had to dig out of my backpack the first and second time....after that i just stuck it in my pocket....lol...i had i down to a science by the 4th roadblock

only 1 out of the 4 siad i may need to angle it down a little more...mine is visible, but hell i couldnt read any bike tag from 50-ft no matter where it was mounted...lol

i think most are just looking for effort from the rider....you know...effort to be legal and illuminated... at least around my part of NC they are..

Hell i went through a roadblock with county sherriffs last week and one of them said he had a 1000rr and we exchanged cards.....lol as i left he said at least try and keep the front end down until i was out of sight...

It's funny you should mention the lightl. . .I was pulling into a gas station and a baltimore county, Maryland police office said the exact same thing about my headlight. It amazes me that that don't know this since it's not something new.

People come up to me every day telling me I have a head light out. At first I would take my time and explaine the whole thing to them. Now I just look at them, turn the brights on and call them idiots. HAHA! J/K
