Flat tire=replacement?
So this morning I am gonna go for a ride but there's a wood screw stuck in the rear tire aprox. 1 inch from the centerline of the tread.[:@] I call the local shop and they say come in on Wednesday to get it patched. The tires are the stock Bridgestone's on an '06 1000rr. Should I just break down and buy a new Bridgestone to replace it? Oh and the shop told of a "Promo" that Avon Tyres is doing, buy a rear venom super sport or sport and recieve a free front tire. http://www.avonmoto.com/contests/contest.asp Anybody have experience with Avon's and is this a good deal???

2565, What ever you do...getting a new skin is the safest. I wouldn't toss the idea of avons yet... was the test on a 1000rr??? was it doing the type of ride'n you do mostly, maybe you arn't tempting jail, or ridee'n track days, 3 times a week. Most tire tests, are at ten tenths, cause they want to proove, thats all there big balled magazine, care about. I think most people would do very well on the top 5 tires of most tests... usualy the test scores are preety close.
Case in point... I gotsa 941000f , no track time, med to faast(for me)... wen't w/ azaro st rear /sp front, I have over rid'n the suspension, but never the tires ability to work WELL. I would not hesitate to ride w/ the avon 2 for 1 deal... check out the reviews yourself... see the diff. in the criteria, that reflect your ride'n needs... call up the avon tire tech people and tell them about your needs... Q's and PP's awsome, no doubt... and I value everybody opinion... but we are headed into fall/ winter , usualy ride'n in a place w/ seasons, can change tire needs too. check it out for yourself...
Ghista, what test, where... as i want to be aware of all tire tests results.
Thanks for this thread... Unless those avons were rediculessly trash, I maybe scarfing up a set of avons, next week !!!!!!!!!!!
Clean and free, Ripp'n

RE: Flat tire=replacement?
i'm on my 2nd set of BT-014s ... they work very well for me and my kinda riding which is 50/50 freeway/canyons - i'm not an aggressive carver ... just like to pick a smooth line and gas it all the way through
the test i was referring to was published in SportRider earlier this year just after the new Qs were released ... testing bikes were the 600RR and GSXR1K over a 180 mile long test on a closed circuit course.
i agree with Rippn that you have to take such tests @ face value and do whats best suited for your riding style and bike ... i personally would avoid Qualifiers although they were rated the highest and go for Pilot Powers or D218s next time around - reason being suspension and tire profile
