How much is it using? Is there blue smoke in the exhaust or just using a lot of oil?

3/4 quart in 2000 miles isn't too bad, but if its smoking and they can smell it that's real bad news.

I learned a while back ago, that if it has a motor, and uses oil it's going to do this:

-Leak a little oil (causing it to burn off)
-Burn a little oil (caused from the leak)

If you have a smoke issue...take it to a shop. What mods have you done if any?
I may be wrong, and correct me if I am. But the smoke coming out at the end of a downshift from high rpm's constitutes "richness" in the fuel correct? Too rich will ignite a small flame, a little rich can cause the smoke. (I think)

Black smoke would be caused by richness. Blue smoke means oil is being burned internally due to one of a number of mostly serious problems.
