Default aftermarket exhaust and heatshield question

I put a two bros on my 07 1000rr. I also have a fender eliminator kit off ebay. I was wondering what you guys do after you take off the mudflap off. I see some people leave the heatshield off and some guys put the black plastic and side piece back on. Um afraid to take my heatshield off and burn plastic or is there something i dont understand? What other options r there?

I just took mine off. I got the bike good and hot and put my hand about the same distance from the pipe as the closest plastic. It barely got warm. no problems so far. I was going to trim it and paint it black with high-temp paint but I really don't think it's necessary.

i just installed the scorpion on my bike. removed factory heatshield. did not replace with any other heat shield. dosent seem to get warm enough to cause a problem. even on long hauls i have never noticed a problem.

The only part that really seems to heat up is the battery box, but that wasn't really covered by the shield in the first place. Keep in mind it might be different with different exhausts.

I bought some stick on heat shield from napa for $13 and trimmed it to fit before installing my pipe. I later changed pipes again and my new pipe came with some of the same stuff
